The silence is almost overwhelming. Or, maybe, it is the darkness. Such a deep, dark, silent world disturbed only by the occasional sound of a water drop falling into the still pools. Crystal Cave, Wisconsin’s longest, awaits exploration by young and old alike.
Crystal Cave lies beneath the hills of Western Wisconsin, just west of Spring Valley. The quiet, rural countryside takes visitors back to a time when farmers worked the fields and children played in the woods. Beneath, they’ll experience the unique underground world, its natural splendor and educational lessons.
Crystal Cave is a family-owned business, discovered in 1882 by two local farm boys who explored with ropes and kerosene lanterns. Today, visitors enter the cave through the Lodge Gift Shoppe, descending steps and ramps into the world of Crystal Cave.
Once underground, experienced and well-trained interpreters explain the origins of the cave and its formations, including stalactites, stalagmites, columns, glistening flowstone, and delicate soda straws with translucent calcite crystals enveloped in tiny droplets of water.
Interpreters provide visitors with a history of the cave going back millions of years to a time when warm, shallow seas covered North America. They will explain how and why Crystal Cave exists answering questions about the geological history of Western Wisconsin.
Make your visit to Western Wisconsin the most unique vacation you’ll ever experience. Visit Crystal Cave.
