Dick Cole
After completing two years at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, Richard Cole attended a Civilian Pilot Training Program and received a private pilot rating. He enlisted in 1940 and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in July, 1941. Lieutenant Cole was assigned to the 34th Bomb Squadron. Later he volunteers for a top-secret mission under the command of Lt. Col. Jimmy Doolittle. Dick served as Doolittle’s co-pilot during the Tokyo raid of 18 April, 1942. After the war he became jet qualified and is rated as a Command Pilot. He is retired as a Lt. Colonel.
